Poster detail: “In the last 30 years the number of category 4 hurricanes has doubled. At least 279 species of plants and animals are already responding to global warming, moving closer to the poles. Malaria has spread to higher altitudes... sometimes as high as 7,000 feet above sea level. Deaths from global warming will double in just 25 years -- to 300,000 people a year. It is estimated that the Artic Ocean could be ice free by the year 2050. This would drive to extinction more than one million species. Global sea levels could rise by more than 20 feet with the loss of shelf ice in Greenland and Antartica, devastating the costal areas worldwide. Recent calculations suggest that increases in global temperatures are occuring faster now than at any other time in the past 10,000 years. |
