Poster detail: “The government of the People’s Republic of China has set up a system of internet censorship, intending to block internet users within Mainland China from accessing material deemed undesirable, such as foreign news site, sites with dissident political content and many Taiwanese websites. The Golden Shield project is known outside mainland China as the Great Firewall of China in reference to both its role as a network firewall and to the ancient Great Wall of China. One part of the block is to remove some websites from search results on search engines. Some words are sensitive. The general internet traffic filter may interrupt a HTTP connection between the browser and the server if it detects sensitive words. In general, if a term is censored, then any sequence containing the term is also censored. Some examples of blocked words are: democracy, human rights, crime against humanity, dictatorship, massacre, anti-communist, Tibetan independence, dalai [as in Dalai Lama], Falun Gong, China News Digest and blocking.” |
